Half Dome was the first Yosemite subject that I chose to present with music. The composer, Michael Hoppe, was kind enough to allow me to use this composition called "Long Ago".
II viewed Half Dome from Glacier Point, and standing there at 5.45 AM, watching the sun rise, was an experience that will stay with me for a long time. The month was June, and Yosemite's waterfalls were still running strong. |

Yosemite Valley is a dramatic sight to behold with it's solid rock faces rising 3,000 feet from the Valley floor. The waterfalls are magnificent, all very different from one another, giving life to this magnificent setting.
Michael Hoppe's composition, "This Magnificent Land", set the mood for me beautifully. It is worth noting that the Yosemite Valley is a very different place at other times of the year, and I look forward to sharing its winter face when the snow is thick on the ground. |

The Mariposa Grove of Redwood trees displays one of nature's wonders. Trees that are over 2,000 years old, rising 250 feet and more into the air, surviving forest fires and more.
The challenge of conveying photographically the scale of these trees still alludes me. I will no doubt give it another go. The accompanying music by Michael Hoppe features the beautiful voice of Heidi Fielding. The track is called "Lachrymosa", on the CD titled "Solace". |
